Sun, Matcha, And Beach Days
We definitely packed in our four day trip, but we came home with full bellies and refreshed (maybe a little sunburnt) faces.

We made a lunch reservation at Zai’s, a very well known sushi spot that’s known for it’s creative rolls and fresh fish.
My standouts were the Perfecta Roll and the Aguachile roll, but my absolute favorite had to be the salmon sashimi serranito. It was so simple, but the fish was fresh and the sauce they put on it was the perfect pairing. We pet a couple of donkey friends and then made our way back home.

It’s an adventure from the start because you have to take a dirt road the majority of the way, it gives Indiana Jones vibes. We spotted donkeys and cows crossing the road at one point too. But once you’re there you are THERE.
The road opens to untouched coastline and sparkly blue waters. I didn’t see any whales this trip, but depending on the time of year this is a great spot to see them migrating. We set up our favorite beach tent and camped out with snacks while Tom surfed and we collected shells on the beach. I love how the texture of the sand is thicker here. It really feels like you are walking around in a spa.

My biggest highlight from this trip had to be our day on the East Cape.
This was not something I anticipated at all, but I kept seeing matcha everywhere and it was legit matcha, not the instant mix sugary type. I found Aurai cafe on TikTok, so that was my first stop. I tried the vanilla cold foam and it was thick and fluffy just like I imagined. I had a chance to chat with the owner and she was extremely passionate about her craft, I really loved supporting a woman owned cafe!
I was grocery shopping at City Market and picked up an iced matcha in their cafe. They did have some unique flavors, but I just went with a classic iced matcha, which did not disappoint.
Next up was Aduana, which I stumbled upon in town. It was the cutest little cafe with exposed brick and ruin looking walls. It almost felt like you were in a tiny cave. The iced matcha was solid and I asked for it to be sweetened with just a bit of agave. I was so concerned I wouldn’t be able to find good matcha, that I brought my whole set, but this was not the case!! Here’s my poolside matcha though.

San Jose Del Cabo is the quaintest town nestled right by the beach. The city square is always bustling with community events, art shows, dancing, and the best churros of your life.
We like to fly through Tijuana airport and use the CBX bridge because it’s a little cheaper and easy to do. You can watch more about how to do it here.
This trip was really special because Rafaela was old enough to really experience Cabo. Last time she was here was for my sister’s wedding at 6 months old. It’s been very surreal to see my daughter playing in the same pool I spent hours playing mermaids in growing up.
Despite having a tummy bug, my girl gobbled up tacos and had a blast at the beach. Yes, there were tough moments traveling with a toddler, but I really just had to shift my perspective and let go of any routines that we keep at home. You can read a little more about my mindset here.
Since I’ve been coming here for a number of years, I always make a point to visit my favorites like Flora Farms for dinner and Ruba’s for breakfast but I did find a couple of new cafes and beach spots I fell in love with.

A family vacation was in order!!
I’ve been coming down to Cabo since I was 5 years old and it really has become a home away from home. The sun always shines, the city square is alive with culture, and the food is the best in the world (IMO).
